What affects the ranking?

1.0 This player is just starting to play squash

1.5 This player can play a consistent forehand but backhand remains a challenge. Rallying and reading the play off the side walls is difficult.

2.0 This player understands the basic strokes and is able to rally. Return of serve is a still a problem. There is a general understanding of the rules.

2.5 This player is comfortable hitting forehand and backhand strokes but has trouble with the volley and getting the ball out of the back corners. Limited understanding of the let rules. Club West Island ‘F’ level.

3.0 This player is able to rally but lacks good footwork and control in shot making. Difficulty still exists with volleying and getting the ball out of the back corners, but has a better feel with reading the ball off the walls. Club West Island ‘E’ level.

3.5 This player is starting to show good footwork and ball control with a competent technique. The full range of shots are accessible and getting the ball out of the back corner is more consistent. Club West Island ‘D’ level.

4.0 This player can hit the ball with authority, plays often and posses some sense of shot anticipation. Club West Island ‘C’ level, Provincial ‘D’ level.

4.5 This player has a dependable defensive shot and can employ the tactics of good squash with good length and dominating the ‘T’ area. Has a good idea of when to attack to win points. Club West Island ‘B’ level, Provincial ‘C’ level.

5.0 This player has the ability to place most shots accurately and makes good use of the side walls. He has a reasonable level of fitness, a steady, solid technique and can read the play well. Club West Island ‘A’ level, Provincial ‘B’ level.

5.5 This player has mastered all variety of shots to a consistent level. Fitness level is high, and the player can evaluate opponent’s weaknesses and strengths and compensate his game accordingly. Capable of playing Provincial ‘A’ level.

6.0+ This player does not generally require any rating. Typically players of this level train intensively for national or international competition and compete professionally.
